Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

The Dog
When God had made the earth and sky, the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals and all the birds and bees,
And when his work was finished not one was quite the same
He said ” I’ll walk this earth of mine and give each one a name”.
And so he travelled land and sea and everywhere he went ,
a little creature followed him until it’s strength was spent
When all were named upon the earth and in the sky and sea,
The little creature said “Dear Lord, there’s not one left for me”.
The father smiled and softly said “Ive left you to the end, I’ve turned my own name back to front
and called you Dog, my friend”

In this world show me respect, a kind word, a gentle touch, understand my only defences, and make my world safe enough that I don’t have to use them.
In this world, teach me, please don’t scold me, give me freedom to be who I am, and I will try to become who you want me to be.
In this world, fill my belly with food, and my heart with love, give me exercise to suit my needs, and medicine when my body is weak.
In this world, I will show you devotion unquestioned, I will protect you from all that I can – you are my everything.
In this world, I will give you my love unconditionally, I will not judge you, or look on you with disdain, only adoration.
In this world, I will fill your life with laughter and smiles, I will lick away your tears, and turn your weeping to joy.
And when I am gone from this world, as I will be all too soon,
In the next world
I will wait for you.
